Al Qaeda 1, cyber security 0
I watched Michael Chertoff give his keynote speech today at the RSA conference. Color me unimpressed. Quoting from the coverage of his speech, News.com reporter Charles Cooper presented the scariest comparison of all. "Chertoff's department has requested $192 million for the new fiscal year but that's still doing it on the cheap. By comparison, we spend $720 million in Iraq each day."
It's time to bring our troops back from Iraq and Afghanistan. We need to start fighting a war here in the United States. It's a cyber war. Our soldiers need to patrol the streets of the Internet where the real fighting is going on. Why isn't the government spending $720 million each day to protect our computers? That's the question we should be asking our senators and congressmen! If we don't start spending hundreds of millions per day, we're going to lose the cyber war. It will be only a matter of time before the terrorists destroy everything.
